January is off to a great start at the bridge club, with big games and class attendance.
The club is beginning its fourth year this month. We just held our third New Year's Eve swiss team game and party. The room was at capacity! I sadly had to turn away a couple of teams! (Yes I'd love to pick up a little extra space.)
Check out this great panorama of the entire bridge club from that game (Click on it for the full resolution version!):

New Player Program
The "open" players may not be aware of how well the novice/intermediate program is doing at the bridge club. We have a viable 99er game every Thursday afternoon at 3:00. On Tuesday evenings we routinely have five-six tables. This past Saturday morning we had eight full tables.
Our classes are drawing students. The Wednesday afternoon Competitive Bidding class has about six tables, and the Wednesday and Thursday evening classes have four tables each.
Zachary runs a Monday afternoon workshop that frequently draws eight full tables, and our casual supervised bridge play sessions on Tuesday and Friday afternoons often have four or five tables of players.
You've seen these players trickling into the Open Pairs games, and starting to lose their fear of playing bridge at the top levels with our friendly folks. Thank you so much for continuing to support and encourage them!
Classes This Week
Our classes are at their best in the context of a full course, but they also stand alone very nicely. If you can't take a full course, you can always drop in for a single class on any topic for $25.
Here are this week's individual classes:
- Wednesday 3:00 PM Bridge Basics 2 - Competitive Bidding "Simple Overcalls and Responses"
- Wednesday 7:00 PM Bridge Basics 4 - Play of the Deal "Play of the Deal at Trump Contracts"
- Thursday 7:00 PM Improving Your Judgment - Doubles "Responding to (Advancing) a Takeout Double"
Every Saturday morning at 9:30 we feature a short free workshop from Eddie Kantar's Thinking Bridge series. The workshop is free, and you're welcome to join even if you're not planning to play in the game that follows.
Coming up ...
The next session of Bridge Basics 1 - Introduction is scheduled for Thursday evenings starting April 2. The course just appeared in the PCC Extension catalog that landed in mailboxes this week.
If you know folks looking for new player bridge classes before then, the 750 Club in Woodland Hills will be starting an Easybridge series this Saturday, January 17th at 9:30. Here's some information about their classes.
Don't forget the Robert Todd seminar on March 15. Save the date!
Best regards
Mojo, Jane, Zachary, Lisa, Susan
