Sectional Special Edition
We're going to be at capacity for every session of this weekend's tournament! Our current plan is to have two sections for the Open Pairs event, with one in the main club and one in the community room, and that will give us room in the main club for the 499er events.
Snacks and coffee will be available in the community room kitchen.
Those of you traveling to Pasadena for the John Waken Sectional this weekend may not want to be on our weekly newsletter list, and if that's the case just drop me a note.
Lunch at the Pasadena Bridge Club
Our club is surrounded by great lunch options:
- Blaze Pizza and Hoot's Wings, just downstairs
- Subway
- Tastees Donut & Burger
- Hong Kong Express
- Vallarta Market: besides authentic Mexican tamales and asada, they have a sushi bar that's had very good reviews from players
- Starbucks
Saturday 299er Game
Next Saturday, August 3, the Saturday novice/intermediate game will move from 1:00 PM to 9:30 AM.
This marks the return of our pre-game workshop session as well. Each week we'll play and discuss one of the hands from Eddie Kantar's "Thinking Bridge" series. Each week will have points on bidding, play, and defense.
The game starting at about 10:00 AM will last until about 12:15. We'll play 14-15 boards.
The weekly Open Pairs Saturday game will continue at 1:00 PM. This should make Saturdays much less chaotic than they have been!
Courses starting next week
Wednesday, July 31, 7:00 PM, Introduction to Defense, six weeks.Â
Thursday, August 1, 7:00 PM, Bridge Basics 1 - Introduction, six weeks, offered by PCC Extension.
My Toronto Trip
Jane and I had a great trip to Toronto. The ABTA (American Bridge Teachers Association) had a fantastic convention with 55 teachers attending.
I was able to follow the convention with four days playing team games with other teachers from the convention. (At 48 a day, that's 192 competitive bridge boards!)
